Brand icon design
Heritage systems translated into modern apparel icons.

Context
This project translates Palladium’s footwear heritage into a clear apparel icon system. The focus is on function, durability, and long-term relevance rather than seasonal expression. Research into military origins, expedition use, and utilitarian design informs a restrained approach where material honesty and purpose lead form. Each concept is designed to feel essential and familiar, reinforcing Palladium’s identity while extending it into a considered lifestyle apparel offering.
Mood
Defining the foundations of a utilitarian product language.

This mood establishes the core references shaping the brand icon direction. Military surplus, industrial workwear, and French utility form the base, grounded in durability, purpose, and restraint. Breton stripes introduce cultural familiarity, while washed cotton canvas and circular badge cues link directly back to Palladium’s footwear DNA. The focus is on recognisable, functional elements rather than decoration. Each reference contributes to a clear, repeatable product language built around longevity, protection, and everyday use. This research phase defines the visual and material codes that inform the development of timeless apparel icons rooted in utility and heritage.
Key trims
Authentic brand codes expressed through considered, long-lasting details.

Trim design focuses on authenticity, durability, and recognisable brand cues. Circular badges, stamped buttons, and woven labels reference Palladium’s footwear heritage and early military origins, translating those codes directly into apparel. Materials are chosen for weight, tactility, and longevity, designed to age with use rather than appear pristine. Branding remains purposeful and understated. Graphics, embossing, and typography echo French utilitarian history and industrial manufacture without nostalgia. Each trim serves a functional role while reinforcing identity, ensuring details feel integral to the garment rather than applied. The result is a coherent trim language that supports longevity, clarity, and brand recognition across the icon range.
Colour and fabric
Grounded colour and fabric choices rooted in utility and longevity.

The colour and fabric direction draws from functional heritage and everyday wear.
Washed blues, olive greens, and deep navy anchor the palette, referencing workwear, military surplus, and outdoor uniforms.
These tones feel familiar, durable, and seasonless. Fabric choices prioritise cotton twill, canvas, and woven structures that age with character. Surfaces show texture, grain, and wear rather than polish.
Camouflage is treated as a material story, softened through washing and fade to reduce visual aggression.
Brighter graphic accents are used sparingly to add contrast without dominating the range.
Together, colour and fabric support a restrained, practical system designed for repeat wear and long-term relevance.
The icon layer
Designed to define the collection through form and function.
Early form study defining balance, structure, and functional placement.

This piece establishes the visual and functional language for the collection. Rooted in utilitarian workwear, the jacket has been edited to feel familiar, precise, and relevant to modern lifestyles. Proportions are clean and purposeful, with generous pocket architecture supporting everyday carry. The fabric is chosen for durability and natural ageing, reinforcing long-term value rather than short-term impact. Every detail is considered to ensure the jacket works across seasons, settings, and styling approaches.
It is a foundational product intended to scale, not a statement made in isolation.

Signature look 02
Field utility, refined proportions, built for daily carry.

Key proportion and pocket refinements explored through iterative sketch development.

This piece anchors the Palladium range. It takes a utilitarian field jacket and refines it through proportion, pocket architecture, and controlled detailing. Four patch pockets create function and balance across the front. A structured hood and storm placket add protection and shape. Durable fabric supports hard wear and natural ageing, so the jacket gains character over time. The result feels familiar, precise, and scalable across colours and seasonal updates.
Signature look 02
Layered protection with a grounded, utilitarian edge.

This look explores a more protective, outdoor-led expression of the collection.
The reworked parka anchors the silhouette, offering structure, coverage, and functional depth.
A simple knit layer softens the look, while the camouflage trouser introduces texture and visual interest without breaking cohesion. Proportions stay relaxed and practical, designed for layering and everyday movement.
The result is a modern utility uniform that balances heritage function with contemporary wearability, suited to both urban and outdoor settings.
